Want a CNAME on the root domain, getting an error

RFC forbids CNAME at apex (root). For bedrijfdomein.nl directly, you need an A record or ALIAS.

Try this first

  1. On www-subdomain CNAME is fine (www CNAME provider.host.com)
  2. At apex use an A record, or ALIAS/ANAME if your DNS host supports it
  3. Cloudflare does 'CNAME flattening' at apex automatically
  4. Vercel publishes a static IP for apex A records (76.76.21.21). Netlify does not publish a static A record; it uses an ALIAS or ANAME-style record via Netlify DNS.

When to bring us in

With dynamic backend IPs, host DNS at Cloudflare for flattening.
