RDS backup strategy is unclear
RDS runs automated (point-in-time) backups plus snapshots. Read replicas serve read load, not recovery.

Try this first
- Set automated backups to at least 7 days, 30 for production
- Take periodic manual snapshots for longer retention
- Test a restore at least quarterly in a test account
- Read replicas for read-heavy or cross-region DR, not as backup substitute

For strict RPO/RTO, look at Multi-AZ plus cross-region replicas, fits in the DR plan.
